Delivering a Business Presentation

Delivering a business presentation is something most of us fear, but in reality it is not that scary if you spend a little time on preparation.

Firstly, write down exactly what you would like to say and practice with a partner or a voice recorder. Use words that you feel comfortable with and expect your audience to understand.

For the nervous presenter this technique can be a great way of easing your nerves, but for success through your delivery, you're going to need to move on to the next stage.

Once you know your speech word for word, then break it down into simple bullet points depicting the general direction the business presentation is to take. The bullet points will act as a gentle reminder when you forget what you have to say next. It will also mean that you only have to look at your notes now and again.

Practice again with a partner or record your speech using just the bullet points for reference until you are fully comfortable.

Finally, before attempting to deliver a business presentation you should try to clear any anxieties you may have around talking in public and addressing an audience, as these will only serve to hamper your message. If you can communicate with a person one-to-one, there's no reason you can't communicate with multiple people at the same time, and essentially that's what any presentation is all about.

Rather than viewing a business presentation as something terrifying, you should treat it as if it were any other conversation, albeit you have a much better idea of what you're going to say in advance of the conversation.

If you can manage it, then the off the top of the head business presentation style oozes confidence and competence, and is one of the most effective in achieving your objectives.

Without notes but with the careful help of slides that the audience cannot see, simply talking about your presentation subject and sharing your knowledge, you can connect much more personally with your audience and really hit home your core message.

Throughout your presentation make eye contact with other friendly people in the audience and ignore the people that would like to see you fail... or if it helps, just imagine them naked!
